Fixed speed cameras and average-speed zones, from the camera database Ghost licenses from SCDB, updated daily. In the UAE that is more than 3,900 cameras. Ghost warns about known camera locations held in that database. It does not warn about police checks, and it is not a live feed from other drivers.

Ghost is available now in the UAE, and more countries follow in the coming weeks — you can leave your email on the home page to hear when it reaches yours. Speed camera warnings are not legal everywhere, so check the rules where you drive. In Switzerland, where camera warners are prohibited, Ghost gives no warnings inside the country. In some countries, such as France, the law requires warnings to be given as zones rather than exact positions.

Yes. Ghost keeps working in the background, and the warning tone reaches you with the phone locked or another app in front. The warning is not tied to having Ghost on screen.

Yes. Ghost does not calculate routes and does not replace your navigation app. Keep using whichever one you like; Ghost runs alongside it and adds the camera warning.

Yes. On CarPlay, Ghost shows the warning as a Dashboard tile on the car screen. On Android Auto, Android phones show the same warning on the car screen. On Apple Watch you get haptic alerts and the key camera information on your wrist. What appears depends on your car, your phone and the platform version.

Tap the plus button. While you are driving, the tap only marks the spot; when you stop, you choose Fixed camera or Average speed zone. On the map, tap a camera to report it gone or in the wrong place. Reports go to our camera-data provider to correct the database. They never warn other drivers in real time.

Ghost uses GPS while you drive, so it does use battery, roughly what a navigation app uses. It does not run GPS continuously when you are not driving.

No camera list anywhere is complete, and your phone can lose its position in a tunnel or between tall buildings. Ghost is a second pair of eyes, not a guarantee. The signs on the road and your own judgement always come first.

Ghost starts with a 7-day free trial. After the trial, an auto-renewing subscription is required. You choose monthly or annual in the app, and your local price is shown before you subscribe.

Subscriptions are managed in your Apple or Google account settings, not inside Ghost. From there you can see the plan, turn off renewal, or cancel. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

On iPhone, yes. Apple Family Sharing lets the subscriber share Ghost with up to five additional members of their family group, at no extra cost, when Family Sharing is enabled for the subscription. Google Play does not support sharing a subscription with family members, so on Android each person needs their own.

The app is translated into more than 40 languages and follows your phone’s language setting. Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu read right to left. Speeds and limits always use the same digits as the road signs.

Your position is used on your phone to work out which cameras are near you; it is not sent as a stream and not stored as a journey history. What does leave the phone: camera reports you choose to send, which go to our camera-data provider SCDB; a random installation ID used for licensing and anonymous usage counts; your subscription status, through Apple, Google and RevenueCat; and your email address if you write to us or join the waiting list, together with the country you chose.
