Every UAE driving licence has a black points record. Points are added for violations on top of the fine, and they are the part of a traffic offence that can take your licence away. Gulf News summarises the system simply: a driver can collect between four and a maximum of 24 black points; once the limit is reached, the licence is suspended or the case goes to court.

One single speeding offence at more than 80 km/h over the limit brings 23 points — one point short of losing your licence. Two serious offences in a year are enough.
How long do black points count?
The limit is measured over a 12-month period. Some campaigns let drivers remove points — Dubai Police’s “A day without accidents” initiative, for example, has offered four points off for drivers who commit no violation on the day.
