The UAE’s roads are busier than ever. According to the Ministry of Interior, reported by Gulf News, the country recorded 6,014 major road accidents in 2025, a 23% rise on 2024, as half a million new drivers and 850,000 new vehicles joined the roads. The number of people injured or killed rose 20% to 7,947.
The top cause: sudden swerving
Khaleej Times reported that sudden swerving caused 905 accidents in 2025 — more than any other single cause. It is usually the result of a missed exit, impatience or distraction. Sudden braking in front of a camera is the same kind of manoeuvre.
The long view: 74% fewer deaths
The same ministry reports that traffic deaths fell 74% between 2011 and 2025, crediting legislation, smart enforcement, AI monitoring, better roads and awareness campaigns.
What drivers can take from it
- Plan exits early; do not swerve for a missed one.
- Keep your distance — tailgating is fined and filmed.
