Speed limits in the UAE are not fixed for ever. Abu Dhabi in particular has been lowering limits on sections with high accident risk, and a lowered limit is the classic trap: the road looks the same as last week, the number on the sign does not. These are the changes announced in 2026 so far.

14 September 2026: E311 near Baniyas
Abu Dhabi Mobility cut the limit on a 6 km stretch of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road (E311), between Tawi Al Qaymah Street and Al Khayr Street, from 120 to 100 km/h in both directions. Abu Dhabi has no radar buffer, so the camera triggers at 101 km/h.
9 February 2026: three Abu Dhabi roads
Abu Dhabi’s Joint Traffic Safety Committee lowered the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road (E22) from Al Nahda to the Bani Yas Interchange from 160 to 140 km/h, the section from the Bani Yas Interchange to the Bridges area from 140 to 120 km/h, and Al Rawdah Road (E30) from 120 to 100 km/h, “to enhance road safety”.
Still catching drivers: the 2025 changes
- E11 between Industrial City and Medical City: 160 → 140 km/h.
- E20 Sweihan Road: 120 → 100 km/h.
- E311: the 120 km/h minimum speed in the two left lanes was removed (April 2025).
- Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, Abu Dhabi: variable limits that follow traffic and weather (October 2025).
